Still Here

Yes, I'm still around. I've had to work concessions the past two nights and will again tonight. When I get home at night after work, I just don't feel like getting on the computer. I've usually been curling up with a book.

Over Christmas vacation, my SIL L mentioned the tv series Flash Forward and how they liked it. Josh and I thought it sounded interesting, so we've been watching the first 10 episodes online. Last night we finished watching the last aired episode and are now all caught up and just have to wait til March when the latter half of the season airs. It's got an interesing premise, and we've enjoyed watching it.

I've been exercising every weekday, doing the 30 Day Shred. I haven't been eating really well lately though. I think working concessions has something to do with it, but I'm trying.

Low-Key Week

This week has been wonderful! I had to work concession on Tuesday night, but I didn't have to work any other evening this week, and I don't have to work tomorrow either. E didn't have any musical practices this week because this week's practices are only for the leads, and Josh had no meetings in the evening either. Wow! How did we manage a week like this?! :)

Josh's brother C from TX had some meetings up here, so last night he came over and spent the night with us. He didn't get here til almost 9:00 pm, but E, J, and G were still awake, so they came down to say a quick hi before going back to bed. C had to leave this morning before 7:00, but all the kids got to see him before he left.

Josh had a meeting during the day for a couple hours down in the big city.

Josh's mom called today to say that Josh's grandpa is in the hospital with bronchitis and possibly the flu.

Josh and I finished watching the first season of Legend of the Seeker online, a tv series based on Terry Goodkind's The Sword of Truth book series which I'm currently reading.

Reminding Myself That It's Only a TV Show

Last night was the season/series finale of Harper's Island. I'd invited GK, a good friend who is also addicted to the show, over so that we could watch the final episode together and talk about the story as it was unfolding. It's a good thing, since there was so much that happened!

And all I have to say (without ruining it for others who read this blog and I know are behind on watching HI) is ... I hate it when tv shows and movies make you feel relieved when something you think is going to happen but don't want to happen, doesn't, but then make something even worse play out, something you never really thought would happen! Argh!

Which ending irked me more: the season finale of Harper's Island or LOST? Tough call. I really don't know, but I did get more worked up about Harper's Island.

Harper's Island

My BIL C from TX is in WI for some meetings, and he stayed overnight at our house Thursday night. While he was here, he asked us if we'd seen the show Harper's Island. We hadn't because from the tv commercials, it looked to us like the show was similar to a Freddy or Jason slasher type film or a Stephen King horror movie, a genre neither of us likes.

However, I do like a good suspense film. In talking with C some more about Harper's Island, he told us that the show is not so much horror and blood and gore but is really suspenseful and is a good serial murder mystery along the lines of Agatha Christie's Ten Little Indians (which is also a movie, but I haven't seen the movie or read the book).

Harper's Island takes place on a fictional island of the same name located near Seattle. (Josh and I honeymooned in the San Juan Islands in Puget Sound, and if Harper's Island isn't actually filmed there, it's taped in a place that looks nearly identical.) The show's premise is a variation on a princess-marrying-a-pauper theme with a destination wedding in which the whole wedding party and guests spend the week before the wedding at a resort on Harper's Island. People start disappearing and turning up dead during the week pre-wedding.

The casting is great! I can't imagine anyone else playing the characters. Although the characters are somewhat cliched stereotypes, the actors and actresses play the roles superbly!

The night that C was here, I ended up going to the Harper's Island website and watching the first two episodes. Last night I watched the third one online, and tonight the fourth episode is on tv. I can't wait! I'm hooked!

I won't deny that Harper's Island has some blood and is gruesome at times, but the gore level seems to be about same as that of CSI. I admit that I covered my eyes and watched between my fingers at times, but the heart-stopping suspense lies in knowing what is happening even if you don't see it, or, in some cases, what you think is going to happen. However, I would suggest that viewers be about 16 years old or older. The show is definitely not for kids, but if you love suspense and/or mystery, you must give this show a try. Be sure to watch the previously aired episodes online first before watching the current episode on Saturdays at 8:00 pm. (That's central time. It's on at 9:00 pm eastern and pacific time.)

Get LOST!

LOST starts again tonight! I'm so excited! LOST and the now-ended Alias (both produced by J.J. Abrams) are my absolute favorite tv shows! I watched both from their very first episodes. Will you be watching LOST tonight? What are your "can't miss" tv shows?
