Day 22 of 365

These are the rings I always wear on my left hand (except in cases mentioned below). The top one on my ring finger is my engagement and wedding ring soldered together. The engagement ring is just the large round diamond, and the wedding ring is a wrap with the small diamonds.

The plain band underneath isn't actually my wedding band, but Josh did give it to me. After we got engaged, I had to get my engagement ring sized, but I didn't want to not have a ring on that finger. Josh, being the handy man that he is, soldered a piece of copper wire together as a ring for me to wear while my engagement ring was being sized. After I got my engagement ring back from the jeweler, I continued wearing the copper wire ring Josh made me, but on my right hand. It turned my finger green, but I still wore it!

Then, on the 1 yr anniversary of our engagement, Josh gave me the gold band you see in the picture so that I didn't have to wear the copper wire ring anymore. I asked him if that meant I'd get a ring every year on the anniversary of our engagement. It hasn't happened! ;) That reminds me! Our engagement anniversary was yesterday ... 13 yrs ago!

As my fingers have changed size over the years due to pregnancy and weight, there have been times my wedding and engagement rings haven't fit me. Then I've just worn the plain band since it's actually a size bigger than my wedding rings. I've also suffered from extremely dry skin, and when I have to constantly lather my hands with lotion, I only wear the plain band.

The ring on my middle finger is my footprints ring that I bought a few months after Grace's death. The inside of it is now engraved with Grace's and Hannah's first names and birthdates. The ring was actually designed based on the Footprints poem, but the footprints on it always remind me of my baby girls' little feet and the footprints they left in our lives and on our hearts.

  3. They are beautiful, Mel. I love how your engagement and wedding rings intertwine like that. I thought they were one ring until you wrote that. I've never seen that before.

    I'm sending an email.
