Remember these guys?Sing with me now! Laaa, laaa, la la la laa, laa la la la laaa!
When we got married, Josh and I used a set of glasses we received as a wedding present. In fact, we received 2 different sets of glasses and somehow managed to break both sets one glass at a time. Then Josh pulled these character glasses out of a box, and we've used them ever since. Unfortunately we still manage to break them, but it seems we aren't doing so as often.
Josh's family had collected these glasses when he was little and McDonald's and Burger King sold the glasses as promotions. (My family had some of the Garfield mugs.)
Remember when the fast food joints used to sell these items to get people to frequent their restaurant? Sure, you had to buy them in addition to the food and drinks, but it was a much better gimick than the junky toys included in the Happy Meals nowdays!
We collected the whole set of Muppets glasses from Welch's, and the boys love using them. It makes it easy to know whose cup is whose, as they each claimed a different character. We've had 3 of them break already, but I went on Ebay and replaced them! Even the 14yo still drinks from his Kermit glass!
ReplyDeleteMy husband collected a set of glasses back in college that a gas station was giving away as a promotion. Those haven't survived, alas, and he is sad about it.
I have one set of 4 glasses from when we married; they have flowers and vines on them. I love them, and consider them to be the "girly" glasses, so only I use them. I still have all 4!
I need some fun glasses! :)
ReplyDeleteI have 4 of the Garfield mugs, as well as the Camp Snoopy glasses from Mcdonalds, as well as the Captain Crook glasses, but I can't remember where those came from. My mom ( and I'm still very mad about this! :)) gave my cousin all MY Smurf glasses when they moved to MN a few years ago. We had growing up, all the Looney Tunes glasses, too, but were never allowed to use them. ( maybe that's why I have so many issues!!! LOL) I did manage to find a Care Bear glass, and Funshine Bear mug, the Care Bear glass I had until my daughter broke it, was the Grumpy Bear one. ( I found those at a second hand store, check your local Goodwill, you'd be surprised by what you find there!) Thanks for sharing this post! Beth
ReplyDeleteI remember those! Sheesh -- they must be worth something on Ebay now, LOL.
