A New Quilt in the Works

For a while I've said that I wanted to make a quilt for our bed someday. Well, the store-bought quilt we currently have on the bed is beginning to wear out and is threadbare in places with the batting exposed in one place, so I figured now was the time to get started on that new quilt!

Here are the fabrics I'm going to use:

(Day 107 of 365)

Yes, that floral fabric with the brown background is the same fabric that I used to make my apron. I liked it so much, and it went with the colors we have in our bedroom (mostly navy with some burgundy accents), colors I love, so I bought more of it and chose other fabrics to coordinate with it.

I know the quilt will take me a while to finish, but I can't wait to get started!

  1. I love sewing quilt blocks. I just wish I knew how to do the actual quilting. I have 2 quilts put together but not quilted. :( My MIL does all her quilting by hand. I think i'm a machine kinda gal. But I just don't know how yet!

  2. Dinah, I sew my quilt blocks with my machine, but I hand quilt the layers together. I've tried machine quilting, but since I don't have a walking foot for my sewing machine, the fabric gets bunched up on the bottom layer and doesn't look right when I try to quilt it. I don't do anyting fancy with my hand quilting though, usually just stitch-in-the-ditch, but it works!

  3. You're quilting? I didn't know you quilted. Can't wait to see if finished, but I will be patient. These things take time.

  4. Yes, truth, I've made a number of quilts. 3 of the kids have quilts on their beds that I made, and I've made a few crib quilts for friends, too.

Hi, Melanie. You've made me feel like breaking out all the quilting pieces I cut 5 years ago and did nothing with. You've inspired me.
