For our library's summer reading program, the participating children get a paper folder on which to keep track of the minutes they've read (or have been read to). Once the child reaches 20 hrs, he/she gets to put his/her name on the library's summer reading "Wall of Fame" and enter his/her name for the grand prize drawing. There are actually about 25 grand prizes, and they are all numbered. Once you've completed 20 hrs of reading, you write down the number of the prize you'd like to win (along with your name, etc.) on a slip of paper and drop it into a box. At the end of the reading program, the librarians draw names to pick the winners of each prize.
When we got to the library, there was a man there singing fun songs for kids. If you were a child who was going to go and watch him, you got a free raffle ticket because door prizes were going to be handed out at the end of his show after the grand prizes were.
When they announced the grand prize winners, J's name was announced as the winner for the prize he'd chosen! He'd won a book about hockey, some hockey sports cards, a hockey player bobblehead, and the movie Miracle.
(Day 219 of 365)
As I said, after the grand prizes were handed out, they handed out door prizes. The door prizes were t-shirts with a picture from the library's reading program. There were probably about 80 kids there and about 40 shirts were given away.
Shortly after the librarian started drawing and reading off the winning numbers, J's number was called! He said one of his siblings could have his shirt since he'd already won something. Then a bit later, G's number was called ... then S's ... then F's (not right after each other)! In our family, only E's number wasn't called, but since J didn't want the t-shirt, all our kids came home with a t-shirt or prize. Pretty cool!
That is great! Tell the kids good job for me! By the way, I love that movie!
