New Photo Challenge

I recently met Emily, a very talented photographer and artist. She invited me to participate in a weekly photography challenge that she co-hosts. Since I'm almost done with my Project 365, I thought this weekly challenge sounded fun. Those of you who enjoy photography may enjoy participating in some of the weekly photography challenges, too!

This week's challenge is shoes. (Click the link to see the original post and the submissions.)

Here's my contribution:

(Day 340 of 365)

I know I'm not nearly as talented (yet!) as many of the other photographers who participate in the challenge, but I'm hoping to learn more about photography, practice photographic techniques, and get feedback on my pictures.

If you enjoy photography, please consider joining the weekly challenges!

Melanie

  3. Rachel, thanks for the compliments. No, I don't plan on doing Project 365 again next year. It was quite the undertaking and challenge, but I did enjoy it. However, I do still plan to take lots of pictures of our everyday life as well as trying to improve my photography skills, so I will definitely still have pictures on my blog. I just won't feel the pressure of having to tie one to every day.

  6. Little Wonder, you should participate! I think you'd enjoy it because of your interest in photography! You don't have to do every week, and the challenges are up for 2-3 wks, so you can even post a bit late.

  8. there is something so simple about this pic that I love- the daddy shoes vs. the little kid shoes- and the sepia helps to give it a nostalgic feel. Beautifully done.
If I were to change anything about it, maybe try taking it from a slightly lower angle- almost down to the floor- but not sure if that would get the effect I'm thinking it would. Maybe play around with it a little :)

  9. Hi again Mel! I finally have a little time to do the rounds and post comments on last week's entries (I finally have mine up too...whew!)

I agree with Em, I really like the contrast between the big and little shoes...but actually I enjoy the angle you took this image at. It was a wise choice to change the tone of the picture. I think with that floor (if it's the colour I'm thinking it is) you would have had a lot of busy colours distracting the eye from what you wanted the viewer to look at. The sepia also makes the whole tone of the picture seem warm and inviting.
The only thing that I think could have made this image stand out is if the lighting was coming from a more dramatic angle. Being top lit as they are the shoes don't stand out as well as they could.

So happy to have you as part of our weekly challenges!
