Corn Palace Diorama

E's 4th grade class at school is studying a unit on the midwest in social studies. They were given the assignment to build a diorama of something in the midwest. E chose to do hers on the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota which we visited back in 2005 when we drove from WI to visit Josh's parents who were living in WA at the time.

Here's a pic of E with her diorama:

(Day 113 of 365)

She used dried beans to represent the corn. As you can see, the lower part of the right turret doesn't have "corn" on it. That's because it's unfinished. If you look closely, you'll see that there is more "corn" in the back of the truck which it is bringing to complete the Corn Palace's design for the year. (Every year, the outside of the Corn Palace is redone with a new design and corn.)

  1. Wow, she did a great job! Very well put together and it just looks cool. :) (I liked the corn palace, I saw it in '00, Noah was 9 months old. We took a road trip to CO.)
